Dried sprats or Haalmasso is an alternative to fish or any other dried fish. It can be cooked in many ways.
Dried sprats are always nice with tomatoes. Instead of tomatoes you can add tamarind or goraka too. But tomatoes gives a nice sweet flavour to this curry. I like to add a lot of garlic in it too. Adding garlic makes it tastes much nicer when cooked.
If you are thinking of eating lots of garlic try adding them in to this curry for more flavour.
This recipe will serve 4 people.
This is about 150 g washed and cleaned sprats. will serve 6 people. wash and clean the sprats well and prepare and cut one or two tomatoes, curry leaves, several cloves of garlic and some green chillies.
I used a teaspoon full chilli powder, 1/2 tsp curry powder, and 1/4 tea spoon turmeric powder and some fenugreek seeds with about 2 inches cinnamon.
Add all the ingredients in to a pot and add about a cup of water. Put it on the stove.
Cook the sprats until to the level of gravy you like and add about 3/4 cup of very thick coconut milk in to it. Cook uncovered about a minute or two. Check salt and switch off the stove.
Serve hot with rice.
