Dried sprats are used as an alternative to replace fish in Sri Lanka. That can be cooked in different ways. This is one way of doing it. This curry is nice and creamy and goes well with plain rice. This is a mild curry but you can make it more milder or hotter as you wish.

This is about 250g of sprats. Make sure to buy the fresh looking dried sprats. Wash several times with warm or hot water. If you can soak them about 15 minutes before washing.

Cut some onions, garlic, chillies, cinnamon, curry leaves, and pandan leaves.

Add about one cup of water.

Add 1/2 teaspoon of chillie powder, 1/4 tsp turmeric powder, and 1/2 tsp curry powder with salt and some tamarind , tomatoes or goraka.

Cook until the sprats are cooked and there is not much water.

Add a cup of thick coconut milk and cook until the gravy is slightly thick.

Add some lime juice to the curry.
