Hoppers The traditional way

Hoppers are easy to make. Hoppers can be done in different ways. One is  using yeast. The other way is using baking soda what we call as appa soda. I already uploaded one for making hoppers with yeast. Now I am giving the recipe for hoppers with baking soda.

This is from 500g Flour. Put the flour in to a bowl. Take two table spoons full flour out from that and put it in to a pot.

In to the two tablespoon of flour add 300 ml of water and cook until it get thickens. Leave it to cool down.


Add the thickened flour in to the flour. Mix well. Add some water and stir until it thickens like shown in the picture. Leave it over night.

The next morning add 1/4 tsp bicarbonate of soda and a table spoon full sugar. Add enough salt to the taste.

Add very thick coconut milk until it runs down as a line as shown in the picture. Leave again covered about 1/2 an hour.

Add a drop of sesame oil in to a pan.  Use a clean cloth or a paper napkin and wipe it off all over the pan. Put a spoon full of the hopper mix.

Turn the pan in a circular motion. Cover with a lid and cook on a medium heat.

Take the cooked hopper out and repeat the same process. If you like egg hoppers break and egg in to the pan after turning the pan with the hopper batter. Enjoy hot hoppers with katta sambol or Seeni sambol.
