Spanish Mackerel or Thora Maalu is a very expensive fish in Sri Lanka. Its always served for special occasions or when some one is sick or breast feeding. If I say it s a kind of  a special luxury thats correct. You cant use it every day due to the high price .

People believe that its very good for those who are sick as its easy to digest. Spanish mackerel is always very  nice when you cook it as a white curry than red curry with chilli powder. The white flesh and the thick coconut milk gives it a very nice flavour once it is cooked this way. There are other methods of cooking this fish and I will upload them soon.

Get all the ingredients prepared. This recipe for about 750g Spanish Mackerel.

Prepare & wash several sprigs of curry leaves, , 1/2 tsp fenugreek seeds, 2 inches cinnamon, few cloves of garlic crushed, one onion finely sliced. I used green chillies too.

Other than the above I am using 1/2 tsp turmeric powder, 1 Tsp curry powder, and 1tsp Pepper.

Add 2-3 Goraka  ( Garcinia Cambodia)  enough salt to your taste.

Add all the above ingredients in to a pot.

Add about one and a half cup of water

Next add the Thora Maalu or Spanish Mackerels in to the pot. Cook about 8 minutes with out stirring. If you stir it will break in to pieces. You can get the pot and shake the pot. That way its easy to mix all together.

Add one and half cups of very thick coconut milk in to the pot. Do not cover.

Bring to Boil. Make sure not over cook. Check salt.

This is the the cooked curry. Enjoy with rice or flat breads , pittu or even as a dipping sauce for bread.
